In September 1998, Khenpo Sonam Tobgyal Rinpoche and the Riwoche Temple in Toronto commissioned Tshewang to create statues for its Temple Shrine Project.
His task was the creation of nine large Buddhist statues. These statues, which range in size from 1½ to 5 feet in height, are the first of this scale to be made in the West using traditional Tibetan methods.
Tshewang continued to sculpt sacred images, including a series of smaller detailed sculptures of the entire Riwoche Dzogchen Lineage, as directed by Khenpo Rinpoche, which were completed in 2005.
